Packing List

All items except if noted should fit into your bucket. Items marked with * don’t need to fit into the bucket.

MANDATORY ITEMS

  • 5 Gallon bucket with lid to hold your stuff (provided by your ward). Decorate or label your bucket.
  • Satchel (provided by your ward) to carry water bottle, booklet, pen, and other essentials.
  • Scriptures.
  • Trek Booklet (provided by the stake) and pen.
  • Hat – Wide brimmed hat is recommended. It should have strings to tie under the chin.*
  • 2 sets of clothing – You will be wearing one set, the other has to fit into your bucket. See clothing guideline below.
  • Two pairs of shoes – They need to be broken-in! One will be worn the day of the second pair in case your first pair gets wet.
  • Extra pairs of socks and underwear.
  • A warm coat or multiple jackets/hoodies for layering. This can wrap-up in your sleeping bag if you run out of room in your bucket.*
  • Rain Poncho – Missionaries told us to expect to get wet at least one day.
  • A pair of leather gloves – For blister prevention as you are pulling a handcart.
  • Sturdy water bottle.
  • Bug repellent – Ticks are an issue.
  • Sunscreen and Chapstick.
  • Warm sleeping bag with an extra blanket inside – This does not have to go in your bucket, but needs to be labeled with your name.*

RECOMMENDED ITEMS

  • Pillow – you can roll it up in your sleeping bag.*
  • Pajamas or something to sleep in, a beanie to keep your head warm at night.
  • Double layer socks (can be found at a shoe store) or nylons to wear under regular socks.  Either are highly recommended to prevent blisters.
  • Anti-Blister gel – Can be found at sporting goods stores.
  • Small First Aid kit.
  • Gold Bond powder – To prevent chafing – especially good for the boys.
  • Wet wipes.
  • Small Flashlight.
  • Hand warmers.
  • Tooth brush, travel size toothpaste & deodorant, other personal items.
  • Hair brush/comb – (Hair ties are strongly recommended for girls.)
  • Feminine Product as needed – (For girls)
  • Nail clippers – (Keep toenails clipped short!)
  • A small spray bottle – Great for a light mist on the face and neck while walking.
  • Gum – Good for keeping your mouth from getting dry.
  • Sleeping mat.*
  • Sunglasses.
  • Cooling bandanas.

GIRLS

  • Ankle-length or mid-calf skirts or dresses. Wear leggings underneath.
  • Khakis, plain cargo pants, or Performance/Tech pants with a belt/suspenders.
  • Long-sleeve blouses/button down style shirts (No short sleeves).
  • Aprons are optional, but convenient.  The standard apron is six to twelve inches shorter than the skirt length. Large, deep pockets are great for carrying items along the trail.

BOYS

  • Khakis, plain cargo pants, or Performance/Tech pants with a belt/suspenders.
  • Button down, long-sleeve shirts (No short sleeves).
  • Avoid clothing that has excessive patterns, logos, or images.

DO NOT BRING

  • Electronic devices (gaming consoles, laptops, heaters, etc.). You can use your phone to message your parents/guardians during bus rides, but there is no service at Martin’s Cove.
  • Drones.
  • Backpacks or fanny packs (A pioneer-style satchel should be made and used for essential items).
  • Valuable Jewelry & Accessories.
  • Glass Bottles or Ceramics.
  • Perfumes or Strongly Scented Items.
  • Prohibited Items – tobacco, alcohol, lighters, fireworks, etc.
  • Fancy clothing or shoes.
  • Full-size toiletries (bring travel-sized items only).
  • Excessive Food (food will be provided, but you can bring a few small snacks if you choose).
